New PokerStars VIP system
Poker Stars will completely change its VIP program in the near future. The old VIP club disappears and is replaced by a system in which one can win by regular playing treasure chests containing random prices. Poker Stars has not yet announced when this system will be introduced on the international market, but the treasure chests are already being tested on the Danish and Italian markets. Our Danish colleague Thomas has looked at the new VIP program more closely and explained to us what the players.
An introduction to the Stars Rewards program
The previous VIP program was aimed first foremost at frequent racers who were given a good portion of rake back. For some players, this rake back was essential, as they could no longer beat the games without these payments. With the new Stars Rewards program, Poker Stars is showing this rake back pros the cold shoulder and is mainly aimed at leisure players. You still get bonus points for every dollar rake you pay. The prices are smaller and especially random. Furthermore, there are more points for players who deposit into the system than for those who are the bottom line winners.
How does the program work?
You have to register for the program, because you are not automatically in the new rewards program. This is currently only for players from Denmark or Italy and you have to press a button in the client to participate in the program. The game progress is displayed in the client in a new status bar. You are now collecting so-called reward points. You get 100 points for each dollar rake you pay. There are also points for the game at the casino and at sports betting, but these are calculated somewhat differently. Once you have earned a certain minimum number of points you get a treasure chest.
When collecting the points you can get a so-called boost every eight hours. This allows you to earn double-speed points for a certain period. The top screenshot shows an active boost of 45 points. As soon as the 45 points have been collected, you will receive 45 additional points. Under My Stars, you can see in detail how many points you have collected and when the next treasure chest is available.
What is in the treasure chests?
There are different colored treasure chests and the color depends on how many points you have to earn for the crate. This number of points differs from player to player and is based, among other things, on the previous play ability, the played limits and the amount of deposits. A red box costs 150 points (in the case of our Danish colleague) this is the smallest treasure chest. The other colors are blue, bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The contents of the Treasure Chests are random, but mostly they contain Stars Coins and other Reward Points. Tournament tickets, money or packages for Poker Stars live events can also be found in the crates.
